Quotes of Blood and Sand

Juan Gallardo: [to Antonio Lopez and Encarnacíon] They say that when a ship is sinking all the rats leave.
Juan Gallardo: Good-bye, rats! But you're mistaken if you think I'm sinking!

Juan Gallardo: Carmen ceta, you're the only true one in the world.

Juan Gallardo: [to Carmen] Someday I'll come back to you with a whole trunkful of clippings, and when you marry me, you'll marry the first torero of Spain, not the second or third, but the first, the greatest!

Juan Gallardo: The cow hasn't been born yet that can give birth to the bull that can hurt me!

Juan Gallardo: [to Garabato] I wouldn't admit this to anybody else in the world... but always when I'm dressing like this... there's a feel of rust in my throat, the taste of death... Fear! But it's gone when I step into the arena. The minute I hear the music, the yell of the crowd, it's all right again.

Natalio Curro: [to members of the bullfighting crowd] You're lucky to be here this afternoon. You'll see history made. From now on the history of the bull ring will be figured as B.G. and A. G. - Before Gallardo and After Gallardo! I, Curro, say it!

Natalio Curro: At last Seville has a matador, the greatest matador of all Full Quotes >>

Trivia of Blood and Sand

- The tailor, 'Jose Dolores Perez' (qv), made exact copies of two of the matador suits of famed bullfighter 'Francisco Gómez Delgado' (qv) (Armallita) to be worn by 'Tyrone Power' (qv).

- 'Rita Hayworth' (qv)'s first Technicolor film.

- Director 'Rouben Mamoulian' (qv) based many of the film's color schemes and designs on the works of great Spanish painters such as El Greco and Velasquez.

- 'Carole Landis' (qv) was originally cast as Doña Sol des Muire but she was replaced by 'Rita Hayworth' (qv)

- In order to prepare for the role of Juan Gallardo, 'Tyrone Power' (qv) attended a bullfight with his wife, 'Annabella (I)' (qv). Because of Power's great stature as a star, he and his wife were given VIP seats in the center front of the ring. Power became violently ill witnessing the bullfight, and in order to get him out of the arena, Annabella said she was ill.

- By ancient tradition, the "traje de luces" can be of any color - although yellow is widely considered unlucky and rare - but the stockings must be pink. When 'Tyrone Power' (qv) is wearing his white suit, his stockings are white - probably a costumer's decision.

- Among the actresses considered to play Doña Sol Full Trivia >>
